Massive Rock Slide Closes Route 7 in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, OH (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 2/26/18 @ 8:10 a.m..

All lanes of State Route 7 are closed in Chesapeake, Ohio, between the 17th Street and the 6th Street bridges.

An excavator has been brought in to start clearing the road.

ORIGINAL STORY 2/26/18A huge rockslide has closed State Route 7 in Chesapeake.

The huge boulders, smaller rocks and trees came tumbling down just before 7 a.m. Monday.

The Ohio Department of Transportation says S.R. 7 West (North) in Lawrence County has been closed in the four-lane section between the 0.0- and the 1.0-mile markers near Chesapeake due to the rock slide.

Both westbound (north) lanes are closed near C.R. 124 (Tallow Ridge Road), east of the U.S. 52 interchange and the 6th Street Bridge to West Virginia.

Currently, the route is open in one lane in the eastbound direction. Westbound motorists will be detoured via the 6th and 17th Street bridges in West Virginia.
