Senate Votes To Open Debate On Healthcare Bill

The Senate will open debate on legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare.  Senate Republicans barely cleared a procedural hurdle on a vote of 51-50.  Vice President Mike Pence was needed to cast the tiebreaker vote.

Arizona Republican John McCain came back to the Capitol to cast a yes vote, despite being diagnosed with a brain tumor last week.  The House narrowly passed a repeal-and-replace bill in May.

In a White House news conference, President Trump praised the Senate for voting to start debate on the legislation.  Trump also praised McCain for returning to the Capitol to cast a key vote in the so-called "motion to proceed."
