Seventeen years ago on Valentine's Day I woke up nervous as could be. My voice, already rough from all the announcing I was doing, was almost gone. But I had to have enough strength in the old vocal cords to call a high school basketball game on that night - Feb. 14, 1997.
You see, at the end of the broadcast I had a plan. Only four other people knew about the plan and that was because they were part of the broadcast. A young lady that I'd grown quite found of was to accompany me on this play-by-play adventure. This is the one I'd fallen in love with and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.
I still have a copy of the end of that broadcast. Tomorrow morning at 7:50 I'll play it for you!
Find out if she said YES!
