As you know, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (#HeAintProLife) vetoed the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act on Friday night. The bill had passed with large bipartisan support in both the state Senate and House. As it stands, WV is one of only nine states that still allow late-term abortions.
This bill would've stopped abortions in the state after 20 weeks - the point where many doctors/scientists say the unborn baby can feel pain.
Allen Whitt, President of the Family Policy Council of WV, joined me this morning to talk about what his organization is asking from legislators who claim to be pro-life.
Listen to the interview below.
I'm hearing that pro-life groups in the state are asking for signatures of at least 60 members of the House of Delegates and 22 members of the Senate to officially petition Gov. Tomblin for a Special Session. If there actually is one, then we'll see who the REAL pro-life legislators are!
I find it interesting that a governor who calls himself "pro-life" has no problem with a veto of a bill banning late-term abortions, but yesterday signed a bill that will increase the state's minimum wage. With that bill, the governor said there would need to be fixes in a special session!
Unbelievable! I guess that's just the way we roll in the WV!
