Health officials in Michigan have traced more than 100 cases of COVID-19 to a single bar in East Lansing. Authorities are asking anybody who went to Harper's Restaurant & Brew Pub between June 12 and June 20 to get tested for the coronavirus and to self-quarantine for two weeks.
Harper's reopened on June 8 and followed all health and social distancing guidelines set by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Fourteen cases were linked to the bar last Tuesday (June 23). The next day, the number of cases jumped to 34, and by the weekend, the number of infections had climbed to 85. On Monday, the Ingham County Health Department said that another 22 cases of COVID-19 had been linked to the bar, bringing the total to 107.
Harper's is near the Michigan State University campus and is popular with students. The health department said that about half of the people who were infected had ties to the college, and most of them were between the ages of 19 and 23. Nobody who tested positive for COVID-19 required hospitalization.
Harper's announced they will be temporarily closing and will install air purifiers. They will also examine their social distancing protocols and see how they can reduce the number of people waiting in line on the sidewalk.
