FOX News anchor Bret Baier was ticketed in Washington, D.C., amid President Donald Trump's crackdown on crime within the city.

Baier was filmed on a clip shared by the Instagram account @mollaanbabbingtoncompass during a traffic stop that apparently stemmed from him picking up his phone while driving in the Georgetown neighborhood on Saturday (August 16).

"With Trump’s federal takeover of DC in full swing, you can’t make this up: I watched even FOX’s Bret Baier get pulled over in Georgetown. And for what? I honestly couldn’t tell. The only thing I can guess is maybe his stop at a stop sign wasn’t “full” enough before turning right, but hey, at least we’re safe from dangerous half-stops. 🙄," the caption states.

Baier confirmed that he answered his phone and was spotted by an officer before being pulled over.

"I picked up my ringing phone as I drove past an officer while driving my wife’s car in Georgetown. He pointed to have me pull over- I did. He was very professional. I had to dig for the registration card. Got a ticket and left. I didn’t know there was paparazzi," Baier wrote on his X account.

Trump announced his decision invoke to the D.C. home Rule Act to place the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control and deploy members of the National Guard to the city on August 11. The president claimed that Washington, D.C., had been “overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged-out maniacs and homeless people" while announcing his "Liberation Day" decision.

Trump claimed that his administration was "not going to let it happen anymore" and vowed to remove homeless encampments from all public places, which includes parks and underpasses. Recent DC Metropolitan Police Department data showed that Washington D.C. has experienced a 26% drop in violent crime compared to 2025, with overall crime down 7% in the last year, according to the New York Post. Trump, however, downplayed the numbers as "phony" and claimed Attorney General Pam Bondi was "looking into that."
