A bill extending funding for the 9-11 Victim Compensation Fund is headed to the Senate after passage by the House. The funding extension runs for decades. NYPD Detective Luis Alvarez pushed lawmakers to pass the bill just days before his death from cancer. Authorization for the fund exires next year and the program's administrator has warned that it is running out of money. Efforts to extend the fund got a big push from former Daily Show host Jon Stewart, who said lawmakers should be ashamed for lags in funding.
