Special Prosecutor Named In Jussie Smollett Case

Actor Jussie Smollett Appears Outside Of Court After It Was Announced That All Charges Have Been Dropped Against Him

Former U.S. Attorney Dan Webb is being appointed as a special prosecutor to look into why charges were abruptly dropped against former "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett. Judge Michael Toomin made the announcement during a hearing in Chicago today. Speaking with reporters, Webb said his goal is to investigate if any persons involved in the case engaged in any wrongdoing and would determine if Smollett should be prosecuted further. Smollett was initially charged with staging a racist and homophobic attack against himself in Chicago earlier this year.  Smollett was indicted on 16-counts of disorderly conduct alleging he paid 35-hundred dollars to two brothers to stage the attack near his apartment building. Just weeks after the indictment, State's Attorney Kim Foxx's office dropped all charges with little explanation.
