President Trump Wants Parents To Get Money If Public Schools Are Closed

President Trump Holds Briefing At White House

As teachers and school administrators grapple with what the upcoming school year will look like, President Trump is making a big push for parents.

In a news conference at the White House on Thursday, the president said he wants $105 billion for schools in the next stimulus bill.

But, if a public school is closed, the president said the funding should then go directly to parents to pay for homeschooling or private school.

"If the school is closed, the money should follow the student so the parents and families are in control of their own decisions. So we'd like the money to go to the parents of the student. This way they can make the decision that's best for them."

President Trump has been very vocal about reopening schools nationwide and getting kids back into the classroom.

The proposed bill also includes funding for coronavirus tests and a second round of stimulus checks.
