A plaque that detailed the Gettysburg address and a bust of President Abraham Lincoln have been quietly removed from the library at Cornell University.

"Someone complained, and it was gone," says Cornell biology professor Randy Wayne, explaining what prompted school officials to remove the historical items. He says he learned of the complaint from librarians who didn't elaborate on the nature of the grievance.

However, Cornell's director of media relations tells a different tale. Rebecca Valli says the display was set up in 2013 as a "temporary exhibit" to honor the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. The university never planned to leave it up permanently, she adds.
